No one can say that professors are not important and, together with students are the lifeblood of any school. So why do so many teachers leaving the profession? New York schools, then they have lost all their teachers, family, high teacher turnover, like the rest of the country.
Schools in New York, which is the largest in the country's school system, hiring approximately 5,000 new teachers this summer (2007) in mid August. They sought a teacher certified in math, science or special education. Schools in New York offered an incentive of housing, which in some cases, totaling $ 5,000 to use for payment on a house. The incentives apparently worked on the basis of the number of teachers hired.
Public schools in New York also are looking outside the world of education teachers. Offering subsidies to offset the cost of obtaining a masters in New York City schools hope to attract "professionals of mid-career." They are looking for people who work in areas like health care, law and finance. New York, Schools director of teacher recruitment, Vicki Bernstein comes to hiring more teachers before school begins September 4 - at least 1,300 to be exact.
In June, a home help the group conducted a study of several school districts around the country about how much is spent annually for recruiting, hiring and training of new teachers. New York schools were included in this survey. The survey shows that schools in New York, among many other districts, the rates of rotation of teachers who cost $ 7 billion per year.
Retirement is one reason schools are seeing a significant departure from their teachers. Moreover, recruitment of new teachers slowed in the 80s and 90s, which raised the average age of teachers. New York Schools says that the wave of retirements was in its heyday earlier this decade, but that does not cause a real shortage of teachers.
However, there are many new teachers hired by schools in New York have been disappointed by the class and find it difficult to stay where they are needed. The National Commission on Teaching and America's Future has calculated that about a third of all new teachers leave the profession after only three years and after five years, almost half are gone - a turnover More on the facts.
Higher wages in the corporate sector, and greater career opportunities are also factors in the departure of teachers, including those working for schools in New York. Traditionally, more women than men have become teachers, and the possibility of higher pay and the chance to expand their career horizons is tempting for many.
The latest statistics from the Department of Education says that approximately 8.4% of the nation of 3.2 million school teachers public leaves the field of academic year 2003-4. Thirty percent of them retirees, and 56 percent said they left to pursue another career or because they were dissatisfied.
This explains, in large part, when they leave school teachers in New York. The district tries to recover.
