How many years has the debate about homeschooling been going for, I'm writing an essay about it. Thanks.
It started in the late 1800s when public school was established. Napoleon invaded Prussia and beat the pants off them. The Prussian (German) government was so astounded that it vowed that it wouldn't happen again. They made education of the masses mandatory so they could make a nation of obedient workers and soldiers. They did a really great job and became the envy of the world. Matter of fact many scholars and historians attribute both world wars directly on to the German public school system. Well, in the US after the potato famine caused a huge influx of Irish Catholic (gasp) immigrants into the country the protestant majority government wanted to break the children's ties with the papists by forcing them to assimilate into the general population. You guessed it. They were removed from their homes, sometimes at gunpoint to attend school. Look up the "Know nothing legislation". Of course the public school in most cases was reserved for the common people. The leaders of society and the aristocracy had private schools and tutors for their children. Lincoln said "what is taught in the schoolroom today will be government policy in twenty years." Think about that.

What is the number for American home school?(American school of correspondence)?
I need to call them in regards to my transcripts, however the number they provide on their website (708-418-2800 ) is a personal phone number, in no way connected to the school. I tried calling the enrollment number and got a less than professional sounding voice mail (hey I cant get the phone now leave a message).
Can anyone offer me more information, or tell me if this school still exist? (its been a few years since I graduated)
thank you, i did try the 866 number and thats what got me the voice mail. Maybe I'll try it again at another time (i did call during business hours, but maybe on an off day)
There is also another number but not sure if it is still working. The school is still open because my son just started. 866-260-7221
Good luck
Home schooling has been around for quite some time now. The debate about it's overall effectiveness has been going on for just as long. Recently however, home schooling has been gaining more and more advocates in support of it.
For the longest time, home schooling has been viewed with a somewhat contemptuous attitude by many. They're under the misguided notion that this type of schooling is for weirdoes and social misfits.
People these days are much more open minded about the idea of home schooling. Lots more parents are choosing to put their kids in some kind of home based program.
So what are the possible reasons for parents to home school their kids? What are the advantages and disadvantages of home schooling? Is it right for your child and what must be taken into consideration when choosing to home school your child?
Home schooling has traditionally been for those children who suffer from some kind of condition or whose current circumstances don't allow them to attend regular school. However, more and more parents are choosing to home school their children because they believe it to be a more beneficial alternative to traditional schools.
There are a lot of advantages to be taken from this type of schooling.
Home schooling allows a child be taught in a more individualized way. The child will not have to compete with several other students for the time and attention of the teacher. Their parent is their teacher and the one-on-one teaching that the child receives will increase the quality of learning.
The nature of this schooling allows for an incredible amount of flexibility and freedom in regards to learning. The lessons and curriculum to be undertaken can be custom made to suit the particular educational needs of the child.
The child can also learn at their own pace, seeing as there's no set schedule that must be followed. A child can take as much time as they need to learn something without being pressured, or they can go as quickly as they can, learning things that would normally take a much longer time to cover in a classroom.
In many cases home schooling will enforce an inherent love of learning and will strengthen the child abilities to learn on their own. These skill will become a valuable asset throughout their lives.
Many parents home school their kids in order to instill moral values that can't be sufficiently achieved in traditional schools. This is especially true if they feel that the child is easily influenced and the schools in the area are a particularly bad influence.
Home schooling helps to cultivate family ties. The time that the family spend together teaching and learning helps to strengthen family bonds.
Thanks to more advanced technology and in particular the internet, home schooling has become even more effective. The internet is a vast source of knowledge and you can find a plethora of home schooling resources like sample curriculums, lesson plans, and all sorts of guides.
The greatest criticism aimed at home schooling is that it might hamper the child's social growth. Home schooled kids tend to be more isolated and many feel that this is harmful.
This isn't necessarily the case though, as studies have shown that many home schooled adults have excellent social skills and are living happy, meaningful lives.
These studies also show that home schooled individuals tend to do better academically than traditionally schooled individuals.
Despite the seemingly many benefits of home schooling, it isn't for everyone. Parents should take in mind several considerations before taking the plunge.
Home schooling takes a tremendous amount of time and effort on the part of the parents.
Teaching will take up most of the teaching parent's day, so this means that the they will most likely not have the time to work. The family must be able to cope with this situation. This is especially difficult for single parents.
Also, the parent must be sure that they will be able teach their child properly and handle all the possible problems and responsibilities that come with being home schooled.
Home schooling, when done right can have very positive results. However, getting it wrong can result in absolute disaster. Ultimately, it's up to the parents to assess their child and decide if home schooling is the right choice for them.

The Home Scientist 018 - Forensic Presumptive Drug Testing I
I have three daughters, and I've considered home schooling for some time now. The youngest is three years old and has just started preschool, so I don't think that I want to remove her from a school setting just yet. The other girls are nine and seven. I want to know how it works, what are the requirements, and is it costly? For those that have or are home schooling, how does the children feel about it?
I agree with the others who say you need to look up your state's laws first. That will definitely be a consideration. I suggest reading "So You're Thinking About Homeschooling" by Lisa Whelchel. It gives a fun and brief overview of different home schooling methods. Many people would also recommend assessing your daughter's learning style. Put these elements together to find the teaching method or methods that work for you and your girls.
It probably couldn't hurt to leave your youngest in preschool a few days a week while the older ones get settled in a bit. I would bring her home by kindergarten, though. Also, many kids who have been to school need a few months to decompress, but they may be able to do that over the summer.

On doctor phil...
they were saying how home schooling is wrong. I'm home schooled and I LOVE IT!!! I've been home schooled since I was born!!! I have a Christian curriculum that is actually a grade ahead. For example: I'm in the 6th grade and the things I'm learning are on a 7th or 8th grade level. I'm VERY WELL SOCIALIZED!!! I'm in SO many activities. In my activities, there are, homeschool, private school, and public school kids. Please tell me if you approve.
AND!!! If you watched the whole show, you would know that it was about Un-Schooling AND Homeschooling.
I didn't see the show, unfortunately--or maybe fortunately. I've heard from other homeschoolers I know that it was frustrating to watch!
I do approve of homeschooling. I certainly don't think every parent should homeschool--far too many parents out there who are wishy washy and not committed to their kids to the level required. You can see this every summer as parents complain about the kids being home all day and looking forward to the kids going back to school.
Fortunately, not all parents are like that, despite what naysayers seem to think--I've become somewhat convinced that many naysayers are against homeschooling because their own parents would have not been good homeschooling parents and they feel that it's best for the kids to be away from their parents. Or perhaps it's just a reflection of how they see themselves as parents. Unfortunately, that means that too many are quick to judge and assume that homeschooling parents don't have what it takes.
I did see something on Dr. Phil's site about the teacher criticizing the socialization. Oh, good grief! Ignorance breeding ignorance, or perhaps prejudism breeding prejudism since she had some comment about it all being with other homeschoolers (which is just ridiculous). But that's a comment based on ignorance, so my first point still stands.
