What is the number for American home school?(American school of correspondence)?
I need to call them in regards to my transcripts, however the number they provide on their website (708-418-2800 ) is a personal phone number, in no way connected to the school. I tried calling the enrollment number and got a less than professional sounding voice mail (hey I cant get the phone now leave a message).
Can anyone offer me more information, or tell me if this school still exist? (its been a few years since I graduated)
thank you, i did try the 866 number and thats what got me the voice mail. Maybe I'll try it again at another time (i did call during business hours, but maybe on an off day)
There is also another number but not sure if it is still working. The school is still open because my son just started. 866-260-7221
Good luck

As far as choices of curriculum go...the sky's the limit! If you go with an accredited program http://www.homeschool-rewards.com/yaahsp then everything will be organized for you. If not, then you'll be able to mix and match like we did. The Sonlight catalog helped us a lot. You may also want to get a copy of "The Teenage Liberation Handbook". It will help you with your transition from public to home. You may even find it at your local library.
There are many ways to homeschool. You'll find how different families do it on this site: http://www.homeschool-rewards.com/yahp

The Alex Jones Show 7/8: Homeschoolers Arrested in NY "We're Being Baptized into Slavery!!"
Home schooling has been around for quite some time now. The debate about it's overall effectiveness has been going on for just as long. Recently however, home schooling has been gaining more and more advocates in support of it.
For the longest time, home schooling has been viewed with a somewhat contemptuous attitude by many. They're under the misguided notion that this type of schooling is for weirdoes and social misfits.
People these days are much more open minded about the idea of home schooling. Lots more parents are choosing to put their kids in some kind of home based program.
So what are the possible reasons for parents to home school their kids? What are the advantages and disadvantages of home schooling? Is it right for your child and what must be taken into consideration when choosing to home school your child?
Home schooling has traditionally been for those children who suffer from some kind of condition or whose current circumstances don't allow them to attend regular school. However, more and more parents are choosing to home school their children because they believe it to be a more beneficial alternative to traditional schools.
There are a lot of advantages to be taken from this type of schooling.
Home schooling allows a child be taught in a more individualized way. The child will not have to compete with several other students for the time and attention of the teacher. Their parent is their teacher and the one-on-one teaching that the child receives will increase the quality of learning.
The nature of this schooling allows for an incredible amount of flexibility and freedom in regards to learning. The lessons and curriculum to be undertaken can be custom made to suit the particular educational needs of the child.
The child can also learn at their own pace, seeing as there's no set schedule that must be followed. A child can take as much time as they need to learn something without being pressured, or they can go as quickly as they can, learning things that would normally take a much longer time to cover in a classroom.
In many cases home schooling will enforce an inherent love of learning and will strengthen the child abilities to learn on their own. These skill will become a valuable asset throughout their lives.
Many parents home school their kids in order to instill moral values that can't be sufficiently achieved in traditional schools. This is especially true if they feel that the child is easily influenced and the schools in the area are a particularly bad influence.
Home schooling helps to cultivate family ties. The time that the family spend together teaching and learning helps to strengthen family bonds.
Thanks to more advanced technology and in particular the internet, home schooling has become even more effective. The internet is a vast source of knowledge and you can find a plethora of home schooling resources like sample curriculums, lesson plans, and all sorts of guides.
The greatest criticism aimed at home schooling is that it might hamper the child's social growth. Home schooled kids tend to be more isolated and many feel that this is harmful.
This isn't necessarily the case though, as studies have shown that many home schooled adults have excellent social skills and are living happy, meaningful lives.
These studies also show that home schooled individuals tend to do better academically than traditionally schooled individuals.
Despite the seemingly many benefits of home schooling, it isn't for everyone. Parents should take in mind several considerations before taking the plunge.
Home schooling takes a tremendous amount of time and effort on the part of the parents.
Teaching will take up most of the teaching parent's day, so this means that the they will most likely not have the time to work. The family must be able to cope with this situation. This is especially difficult for single parents.
Also, the parent must be sure that they will be able teach their child properly and handle all the possible problems and responsibilities that come with being home schooled.
Home schooling, when done right can have very positive results. However, getting it wrong can result in absolute disaster. Ultimately, it's up to the parents to assess their child and decide if home schooling is the right choice for them.

Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairman Jon Leibowitz was recently joined by California Attorney General Jerry Brown to announce the initiation of “Operation Loan Lies”, a coordinated national law enforcement effort to crack down on mortgage loan modification scams.
The operation has already filed 189 actions by 25 federal and state agencies against fraudulent loan shops that used deceptive marketing to push their shabby or non-existent foreclosure rescue and mortgage modification services. The actions involve homeowners across the country but were announced in Southern California, where the fraudulent companies were based. “These con artists see the high foreclosure rates as an opportunity to prey on people in distress,” FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz said. “They promise to rescue homeowners in troubled financial waters, but after they take their money they throw them an anchor instead of a lifeline.”
In conjunction with the announcement the FTC gave details on four additional lawsuits which brings the total of mortgage foreclosure rescue and loan modification scam cases the Commission has brought since April to fourteen. In the four new lawsuits, defendants are charged with:
Making claims that, in conjunction with the loan modification, they would stop foreclosure proceedings
Failing to honor promises of refunds to homeowners if the proposed action was not successful
The defendants are charged with doing little or nothing to advance the loan modification process for their clients after receiving fees approximately equal to one month’s mortgage payment.
The specific charges against defendants are as follows:
U.S. Foreclosure Relief made false claims of fast turnarounds for approvals and years of experience with fictitious success rates for their loan modifications. Homeowners received neither. They are also charged with violating the FTC’s Do Not Call Rule due to their repeated contacts with homeowners on the National Do Not Call Registry. Pending a court date, assets of U.S. Foreclosure Relief were frozen.
Lucas Law Center made false representations about their capability to obtain loan modifications. They also told homeowners to divert their mortgage payments toward paying Lucas’ fees, a violation of the law. The company did provide refunds to some of their clients but only after repeated complaints and requests for help from the Better Business Bureau, the California Attorney General, the State Bar of California, and/or local authorities. The court froze Lucas Law Center’s assets ahead of a court hearing
Loss Mitigation Services assured homeowners that their loan modifications were virtually assured because they were a department of, or affiliated with, the consumer’s lender or mortgage servicer, a complete fabrication. Some homeowners lost their homes while waiting for modifications which would never happens.
· Apply2Save made claims that they could get loan modifications done in thirty to ninety days when, in fact, they never made contact with the homeowners’ lenders. To stall for time, Apply2Save told their customers that paperwork was lost, often more than once.
Operation Loan Lies follows an April 6, 2009, announcement by FTC Chairman Leibowitz, Attorney General Eric Holder, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan that there would be a crack-down on companies that were set up to defraud homeowners seeking home loan modifications.
The four companies provide valuable lessons in how homeowners can protect themselves from hiring a deceptive company that will not deliver on promises. In the case of U.S. Foreclosure Relief, one warning sign would any talk or intimation of affiliation with the U.S. government. U.S. Foreclosure Relief and Apply2Save both pitched themselves as being able to get approvals for home loan modifications faster than any of their competitors. Homeowners should be aware that the process of modification is two sided and that lenders are currently flooded with applications. Any promises of fast turnarounds should be met with great skepticism. Lucas Law Center advised customers to pay them instead of their lender, an obvious warning about their regard for legal and ethical standards. Finally, Loss Mitigation Services’ claims of affiliation with lenders and guarantees of loan modification approvals because of it were definite red flags. Finding the truth would have been as easy as making a direct call to the lender to verify the claims.
Avoiding the problems encountered by homeowners that were scammed by these firms is as simple as asking the right questions, doing some leg work, and realizing that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Insist on working with a firm that has already done hundreds of loan modifications and can prove it. Visit the office and ask questions until you’re comfortable. A loan modification is a huge and important undertaking. Ensuring its chances of success by doing your homework will keep you out of trouble and give you a much better chance at staying in your home.
